Matabee Pear Farm, located in Yachiyo City, Chiba Prefecture, boasts a history of over 60 years. We interviewed Yusuke Tsunashima, the third-generation owner of the farm, who is committed to completely organic farming and is so popular that his pears sell out every year, about the background to the farm's introduction of the E-cat kit2 .
Tsunashima, who left the real estate industry to successfully brand and expand his business, explains why he is now focusing on "on-site labor-saving." We explore his thoughts.
- "The ease of operation is completely different" : Thinning and harvesting work on a vast farm (approximately 16,000 m2) requires physical strength. Through the demonstration experiment, the farmer commented that "it has become surprisingly easy," and felt the reduction in fatigue due to the electrification.
- Innovation that allows even special carts to be motorized : The deciding factor in the adoption was that the system can be attached to the specially shaped carts that are unique to pear farming. The flexibility of being able to update with the latest technology while still utilizing the tools that farmers are familiar with was highly praised.
- A partner supporting aggressive agricultural management : E-cat kit2 supports the efforts of "Nashien Matabee," which is constantly striving for new stages, not only in branding its crops but also in venturing into sixth-sector industrialization.
This episode is full of Tsunashima's passion for the field and his ingenuity, as he says, "I want to increase the number of people who are interested in updating agriculture."
